March Madness As Told By A Mad Man
by Bill Delaune

A little madness in the spring is healthy even for a king Sir Robert Knight.

So you think the craziest case of spring fever this year struck the Catholic bishop in Savannah, Georgia, when he moved St. Patrick’s Day from its traditional date of March 17 to the 14th so it wouldn’t interfere with Holy Week?

I was born Irish-the Catholic part came later, protested one green-clad reveler who vowed to celebrate on the 17th as usual. And what would Tony Soprano do if the church tried to deny the traditional Italian St. Joseph’s altars on March 19? Doesn’t the bishop remember how many people got whacked in the famous Sopranos episode when some Native American sympathizers protested Columbus Day?
But rest easy, Father, because the real craziness won’t start until Thursday, March 20, when the NCAA Basketball Tournament gets underway causing an epidemic known as March Madness to sweep the country. If you think the economy is in the tank right now, wait until the first day of spring when workforce absenteeism hits an all-time high because of the 11 a.m. tip-off between Duke and Bethune-Cookman. And pity the poor employers who have to closely monitor those few souls who did come into work just so they could keep up with the early games on the company computer. So if you’re going to lose your religion or your job or both this March, you’re going to need some “walking-round money” to put the spring back in your step. The point being-you might as well hit the office pool for the NCAA Tournament before they run you off. More

As internet connections become faster and production technology becomes more affordable, online videos are quickly becoming a popular form of advertising on the web. Because web-videos can be broadcast rather inexpensively, it is worthwhile to invest in production quality. At a time when amateur videos are flooding the internet, creating a professional web-video with all the key elements is more important than ever. More

Don't Fret The Guitar
by Joel Bourque

So the last few months I've been talking about the musical alphabet, 7 notes and sharps and flats and all that stuff. After you get all that straight, you'll notice there are 12 notes in our musical alphabet. Now, I'll fill you in on some practical uses of the all these notes in relation to the “keys” of songs.

“Freebird” is in the key of G, that is common knowledge. But what does that really mean? Songs have a tonal center or “key” and are made up of chord progressions. In ‘Freebird’, G is the main chord you hear. As the other chords are played, they're taking you away from the G. Throughout the song, whether you know it or not, your ear always wants to go back to or “resolve” to that G chord. This creates a tension and release effect that all great music has.

How do you know what key a song is in? A good rule of thumb in determining the key of a song is to look at the last chord. 90% of the time, the last chord is the key of the song (don't worry about the other 10% right now). Wanna be cool and play a screaming solo over a tune? You better know what key you're in. If the song is in G, grab a G pentatonic scale and go to town. If you solo in the wrong key, your audience is sure to notice, trust me it's not a good feeling. Any of the 12 notes in the musical alphabet can be the key of a song. More

Lamar-Dixon Hosts Louisiana High School Rodeo Association

For over 50 years now, Louisiana High School athletes have competed in high school rodeo competitions sanctioned by the Louisiana High School Rodeo Association and the National High School Rodeo Association. During the past years approximately 500 students from across the state have taken part in the activity. This year the LHSRA athletes will have the opportunity to compete in 24 qualifying rodeos held throughout our state. These rodeos are sponsored by individual clubs typically composed of participating student contestants, their parents, and other interested parties who understand the value of competition in an equine sport for students at the High School level. The South Louisiana High School Rodeo Association is one such organization. More

THOUGHTS FROM BULLY: The Art of Self Healing

All people face health problems or injuries sometime in their lives.

As small chidren we are, at one time or another, a pateint being treated by our parents using age old remedies.

I recall a time when a cough was cured with a tablespoon filled with whiskey and sugar and heated on the stove. Getting that medicine down was quite a chore but after you took it, it didn’t matter if you had a cough or not. A six year old can get a snoot full and will easily go to sleep with a warm belly full of Old Crow.

As a 4 year old my mother knew just what to do to get me to sleep. She’d sit on the couch with a pillow in her lap. She’d then feed me a few boiled salty peanuts and give me a few sips of her Falstaff beer. Then she’d put the television on “Fright Theatre”. I was so scared, I’d close my eyes and hide in the pillow. Nite..Nite  zzzzz. More
