Meet The Sanchez Boys
By Joey Fryoux

Usually, change can expect mixed reviews at best. Most people avoid change like the plague, yet it is one of life’s few guarantees. In south Louisiana, the storm of change that would be the sixties was perhaps even less apparent than anywhere. How different was life in 1958? Milton Berle, Ed Sullivan, Jack Benny, The Honeymooners, Lawrence Welk, Gunsmoke, Mickey Mouse, Captain Kangaroo, Huckleberry Hound. Elvis enters the army and simultaneously the Cajun inspired movie King Creole hits the big screen, along with Vertigo and South Pacific.

In the music world, Billboard’s Hot 100 List releases its first chart. It is topped by Ricky Nelson’s “Poor Little Fool”. The Age of Aquarius dawned on the careers of many new artists including Marvin Gaye and The Bee Gees. It had become clear, rock and roll would never die, and music was becoming more a part of the lives of America’s teens than ever before. That electricity lit a torch that would become the burning fire to drive two young boys from Ascension Parish through a lifetime of joy in music. Ladies and gentlemen we give you Johnny and Pat Sanchez. More

Ascension Magazine to Marry

Ascension Magazine is proud to announce their union with Southern Grace Weddings. The honor of your presence is requested at the celebration of this remarkable event in June as the first issue is produced.

Ascension Magazine has published a Bridal Issue each January. We have relied on local area businesses to make this a success and a success it has been. Julie Rivett wedding coordinator of the Carriage House has helped us with planning information for Brides and Grooms in each issue. The bridal issue has been such a success that the time has come for a new step with the magazine.

Through our working relationship with Julie Rivett and Orhan McMillan of Dezins - Print and Web Services, we have joined forces. Julie and Orhan were ready to present Ascension Parish with an amazing wedding planning magazine called Southern Grace Weddings.

Through much planning we have collectively decided to produce Southern Grace Weddings a Special Supplement to Ascension Magazine. This magazine will be produced in June and January of each year with the first Issue in June of 2006.

”We are very excited to be able to partner with Ascension Magazine to bring to Ascension Parish our own special style of wedding planning with Southern Grace,” states Julie Rivett. More

Thoughts From Bully: Proud Moments Between a Father and a Son

It is hard to tell if you are getting through to your kids these days. It’s hard to tell if your parenting and guidance is sinking in.The first time a pink slip was sent home, in my sons’ booksack was when he was in the 1st Grade. It indicated I had to meet with the principle. Great, the kids 5 years old and I am already having to meet the principle. I found out that my son had gotten in an altercation at school with two 3rd graders. The principle grinned at me and told me the story. These 3rd graders decided to pick on his friends. Well, my sweet little bundle of joy, sent those bullies crying to their teachers.

The principle, still grinning, said, “Your son is not in trouble. Your son didn’t hit anybody. He just choked them in a headlock until they went away.”

”Your son then looked up at me,” and said. “You don’t hit at school and you don’t back down from bullies.”

That’s my boy. I believe some parenting is getting through to him.

About 5 years later he had an encounter at school with an unrully, aggressive, out-of-control, spoiled, militant female student. This young lady had a temper tantrum after he accidentally bumped into her. She began to rave and scream in his face loud enough to attract the attention of the police officer on duty at this inner city Baton Rouge school. The officer looked on just as the little &#%* spat in my son’s face. More
